The Australian Mauritian Association is a non-profit organisation based in Sydney NSW, registered with the Department of Fair Trading.

Founded in October 1969 by Rex Moutou MBE and a group of friends, the aim of the organisation was to help new Mauritian immigrants settle in their adopted country.

These days the AMA is involved in a variety of projects, focusing on the social lives of its members and their desire to join in healthy pursuits.

The association consists of 200 families living in western Sydney and coming from various backgrounds. We have evolved as we now have quite a few non-Mauritian members who enjoy our joie de vivre and our friendliness.

We have a range of activities which means there is something for everybody.

Brisbane Petanque Club

0411 079 183

Brisbane Pétanque Club was founded officially in 2002 by a small group of people who for the sheer love of the game strove to create our courts here at Kalinga Park, to better share the sport and to expose others to a popular French tradition. Their enthusiasm for a good time promoted what we have today.

Camberwell Petanque Club

Camberwell Petanque Club was started by Don Miller and Christian Draschler on 5th September 1998. It had 13 members and an unused area at a bowling club in St James Park, Hawthorn.

Construction of proper pistes started on 13th November 1999. Don called a mate at Boral and got gravel delivered by the truckload, all 120 tons of it. With help from Christian and others over the next two weekends they levelled 20 pistes. An extraordinary achievement! The first game was played the very next day.

We are Canberra's petanque club. With around 50 members our focus is on the social aspect of petanque, while also providing opportunities for competition.

Our "home ground" is our wonderful compacted gravel terrain - or "boulodrome" - in Weston Park, Yarralumla. The location is a beautiful one, with heritage landscaping and the ever popular Weston Park kangaroos sometimes taking their right of way. The 54 metres by 18 metres terrain can easily accommodate 13 playing pistes. Our club received a generous ACT Government Sport and Recreation grant to build the boulodrome which was opened in November 2015.
