Becoming a PFA Accredited Tournament Official

This page outlines the development programs that PFA makes available to competition or tournament officials throughout the Federation.  Programs are available to help club, league and federation officials to understand their responsibilities and to develop confidence and competence in their roles.

Tournament Directors

The Tournament Director is the person appointed by the relevant governing body to 'manage' the competition.  The Tournament Director will oversee the event to ensure the smooth running and fair conduct of the scheduled program.

He/she will ensure that a risk assessment has been completed before play and in conjunction with the senior umpire ensure that all involved follow the rules of the sport.

PFA has developed a pathway for officials that includes the development of the skills and knowledge to effectively perform the role of Tournament Director at the club, state, national and international levels.

Competition Coordinators

The Competition Coordinator is the official who manages the score table and in conjunction with the Tournament Director and the Senior Umpire ensure the smooth running of events of the tournament.

He/she will manage the scoring of the events using Competition Management software approved by PFA.  The Competition Coordinator needs to be proficient at drawing and scoring various event structures.

Jury Members

Jury Members perform a critical role in the smooth running of a tournament.  They are appointed by the Tournament Organisers to sit and decide contentious matters, complaints and issues that arise during the competition.

They are important to the support of competition in ensuring matters are decided according to PFA sporting principles and the competition is not overly delayed.  They require a sound knowledge of the rules, the competition policy and PFA policies.  Jury Members require effective decision making and conflict resolution skills.
