President's Update
  Roger SQUARE PIC

Spring is here, and with it comes a busy period for our Australian petanque community.

Across the country, our state leagues and clubs have an active calendar of events, championships and tournaments ahead. It is great to see so many opportunities for players to get onto the piste, enjoy the competition and, importantly, connect with others through our sport.

This month, I'm also very pleased to welcome Peninsula Petanque Club at Avalon, NSW, as a member club of Petanque Australia. We look forward to supporting the club and its members and having them as part of our growing Australian petanque community.

Behind the scenes, the Petanque Australia Board continues its broader review of policies and guidelines.

For
a small national sporting organisation, it is important that our governance arrangements are contemporary, practical and proportionate. Our focus is on reducing unnecessary duplication, strengthening integrity and compliance, and wherever possible adopting established national
frameworks rather than creating additional layers of administration.

This review includes our governance, coaching, umpiring and selection frameworks, with the aim of ensuring they are clear, contemporary and appropriate for our sport. An important part of this work is also ensuring that relevant policies and guidance can be readily adopted and applied by our state leagues and clubs. This helps provide greater consistency across the sport while allowing our limited volunteer resources to remain focused on supporting clubs, players and the growth of petanque.

A brief reminder as we move through a busy tournament calendar: we encourage players who are unwell, particularly with cold, flu or other respiratory symptoms, to follow current public health advice and avoid attending events where they may expose others. Individual players have a responsibility to make sensible decisions about their health and show consideration for fellow players. Clubs and event organisers can also reinforce this message where appropriate.

There is plenty of great petanque ahead over the coming months. Whether you are competing in a league championship, travelling to a club tournament, volunteering, officiating or simply enjoying a social game, thank you for being part of our Australian petanque community.

Enjoy the Spring and all the petanque that comes with it.

Regards,

Roger Maddern

Our Australian petanque community

Our Australian petanque community

One sport. One community. A shared future.

Petanque Australia is developing a revised three-year strategy to support the growth and development of our sport across Australia.

At the heart of this work is a simple message: we are one Australian petanque community.

Players, clubs, leagues, volunteers, coaches, umpires, officials and supporters all contribute to our sport. While we play in different clubs and states, we share a common interest in seeing petanque grow and prosper.

The revised strategy will focus on growing participation, strengthening support for clubs and leagues, developing our people, and creating more opportunities for Australians to discover and enjoy petanque.

Further consultation and development will continue before the strategy is finalised by the PA Board.

We will keep the community informed as the work progresses.

Together, we can grow our sport and strengthen the Australian petanque community.

Welcome Peninsula Petanque Club

Peninsula Pétanque Club is situated in Avalon amongst the beautiful Northern Beaches suburbs of Sydney.

We play the popular French sport of Pétanque on eleven well kept pistes, every Wenesday and Saturday 10am to 12noon (weather permitting), on the grounds of the Avalon Bowling Club.

We have full use of the club facilities (outdoor kitchen and bar) and make the most of them during our social events.

Our colourful Bastille day lunch is our yearly main celebration, but come closer is our Easter festivities when the Peninsula Pétanque Piñata offers a cheerful destructive challenge for our sharp shooters.

We pride ourselves on being a club with a convivial atmosphere.

Beginners are welcome, and we offer a free Pétanque workshop twice a month.
